The stiffly arching, broad green leaves of this NZ native are overlaid with a silvery sheen and the ribs are often reddish. A very tolerant species which will grow from the coast to an altitude of around 900m. An excellent filler for a large space in sun or shade. Prefers good drainage. Evergreen.
Avoid planting in wet soils or planting to deep Astelia fragrans requires a moist but free draining soil. Feed once a year using Texture Plants 12 month planting food. If applying mulch avoid putting mulch up the crown of the plant.
