Similar to Black beech but smaller growing, this NZ native grows into a tall slender tree with small oval smooth-edged shiny green leaves with paler undersides. Older trees have a somewhat tiered look. Requires well drained soil and benefits from a shady situation in the garden. Hardy. Evergreen.

Plant Care: 

Well drained soil is essential for the New Zealand Beech’s, Other than soil they are hardy to most South island sites as it prefers a cooler climate. Feed once a year with Texture Plants 12 month planting food. Little pruning is required unless training into a hedge.
