A distinctive New Zealand native that forms a bold clump of yellowish green spine-tipped leaves. In summer it sends up large golden flower heads up to 75 cm long that rise well above the foliage and make a dramatic feature. The sculptural form adds structure and texture to the garden all year round.

Prefers an open sunny position with sharp drainage. Suits rock gardens and gravel plantings or sunny banks and it also makes a striking specimen in a large container. Best planted away from paths and play areas as the leaves are sharp. Very hardy. Evergreen.
