Low Maintenance

Amelanchier canadensis, also known as the NZ Whitebait Tree, Shad Bush or Canadian Serviceberry is a refined deciduous small tree or large shrub offering exceptional multi-season interest. In early spring, masses of delicate white star-like flowers appear on bare branches, creating a light, airy display. These are followed by small, sweet edible berries that ripen to deep red-purple and are highly attractive to birds.

Fresh green foliage carries through summer before turning brilliant shades of orange and red in autumn, providing strong seasonal colour. Its naturally elegant, open form suits both formal and naturalistic plantings.

Thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Hardy and adaptable, it is ideal as a feature tree, in woodland-style gardens or mixed borders.
