Lapageria rosea the national flower of Chile, is a stunning and highly sought-after evergreen climber treasured for its deep green foliage and showy, waxy red bell-shaped flowers that appear from summer into early autumn.

This elegant twining plant adds a touch of tropical beauty to shaded gardens, woodland settings or sheltered patios. It thrives in humus-rich, well drained soil, with its roots kept cool and shaded, while the stems climb into semi-shaded areas. 

Best grown on a trellis, pergola or in a large container in a sheltered location. While reasonably hardy, it should be protected from severe frost. A true collector’s plant and a striking statement in temperate gardens.
