A compact, rounded evergreen shrub grown for its colourful, claret-edged bracts with cream centres, flushed with red through winter into early spring. Fine, bright green foliage gives good year-round texture. A useful plant for rockeries, the front of a border, patio containers, or as a low hedge, and the flowering stems cut well for floral work.

Thrives in full sun in an open, airy position with free-draining, slightly acidic soil, and tolerates dry periods and coastal conditions once established. Tolerates light frost but choose a sheltered spot in harsher areas. Needs only a light prune after flowering to keep its shape.
