Low Maintenance

Nothofagus solandrii commonly known as Black Beech, is a tall, slender New Zealand native tree admired for its fine texture and elegant form. It features small, oval, smooth-edged green leaves with paler undersides, creating a soft, filtered light effect. Mature trees develop a graceful, tiered branching structure making them a standout in native or woodland gardens.

Prefers moist, well-drained soil and benefits from a partly shaded position, especially when young. Hardy and evergreen, Black Beech is a valuable specimen tree for larger landscapes, revegetation projects or as part of a native planting scheme.
