A rare New Zealand native shrub with a many-branched, spreading habit and distinctive whorls of narrow foliage along the stems. Small fragrant yellow flowers marked with red striping appear seasonally, adding subtle interest and scent.
Naturally occurring along the margins of kauri forests, it prefers a partially shaded position with moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Best suited to sheltered garden settings where it can develop its natural layered form.
Evergreen and uncommon in cultivation, it is a rewarding choice for native and woodland-style plantings. Protect from severe frost while establishing.
