Low Maintenance

A bold and eye-catching perennial, Salvia guaranitica Black and Blue forms tall, upright clumps of crinkled green foliage, topped in summer and autumn with striking deep blue flowers set in dramatic black calyces. The vivid contrast gives this salvia exceptional ornamental appeal.

This herbaceous perennial performs best in sheltered, sunny to partially shaded positions with good drainage, especially during the cooler months. It’s a magnet for bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making it a great addition to wildlife-friendly or cottage style gardens.

Cut back in late winter or early spring to promote strong new growth. Hardy in most New Zealand regions, particularly with protection from heavy frosts.
